Description Limited land availability is one of the reasons for the growth of tall buildings in urban areas. To obtain optimal design results, planners need to understand aspects of materials, structure and construction as well as their utility. Students need to understand these four aspects as capital for Design Studio assignments, as well as preparation for practice after college. Students are expected to be able to select or combine various variations of materials with structural systems, construction methods and utilities that support them carefully according to the context of user needs, the surrounding environment, ideas of form, aesthetics, technology, available resources and regulations. This course is a forum for students to learn actively about the principles of material use, structural systems, construction methods and utilities and their application to tall buildings.
