Description This course explores the role of ornament and calligraphy in architecture as aesthetic, symbolic and cultural elements. The discussion includes types and styles of ornaments, placement techniques, and their integration in building design. Special focus is given to the art of Arabic calligraphy (khat), including its history, various types of khat such as Naskhi, Kufi, and Diwani, as well as its aesthetic principles. Students will analyze the use of calligraphy as architectural ornament, including its meaning, suitability, and influence on the aesthetics of traditional and contemporary buildings.
